Sel Roti
Description
Sel Roti is a traditional Nepali rice-based ring-shaped bread, often prepared during festivals and special occasions like Dashain and Tihar. It has a slightly sweet flavor, crispy exterior, and soft interior. This festive delicacy is usually enjoyed with tea or paired with fried vegetables and meat dishes.
Ingredients
- 2 cups rice (soaked overnight)
- ½ cup sugar
- 2–3 tbsp ghee or butter
- ½ cup milk (or water as needed)
- ½ tsp cardamom powder
- Oil for deep frying
Steps
- Drain the soaked rice and grind it with milk to make a smooth batter.
- Add sugar, ghee, and cardamom powder; mix until well combined.
- Heat oil in a deep pan.
- Pour the batter in a circular ring shape into the hot oil.
- Fry until golden brown on both sides, turning gently.
- Remove and drain excess oil before serving warm
